Championing social enterprise and purpose-driven business in Geelong by creating a shared workplace and events hub in the CBD.

Impact Workshop was a home for small to medium-sized businesses with big hearts and people with a mission bigger than themselves. We created a welcoming, comfortable and productive coworking space where businesses could grow and our community could make meaningful connections and a positive impact on the world - from right in the heart of Geelong. Impact Workshop supported freelancers, founders and startups to follow their purpose as well as profit through expanding their networks, offering a program of events, development and skill-sharing opportunities. The space featured 8 permanent desks, 16 hot desks, four meeting rooms and plenty of informal areas to collaborate and run events.

Sprout were engaged by Impact Investment Group (IIG) to develop a feasibility and concept plan for a purpose-driven coworking space at the ground floor of the award-winning TAC building in Geelong's CBD. Sprout worked with the IIG team to build up an impactful and efficient management solution for the space. Sprout ran various business models and operational approaches to meet the need within the community and the clients desired outcomes. We launched Impact Workshop in August 2017 and delivered a one-year project that championed purpose-driven businesses in the Geelong area.

We couldn’t have asked for a more inspiring and beautiful space to grow our Geelong Women in Business community and connect with like-minded people. The Sprout team created an inclusive space with terrific energy. Their drive to make a positive impact through purposeful business rubbed off on everyone who had contact with the Impact Workshop.
Samantha Krajina, Founder, Geelong Women in Business

  • Provide access to a high quality, energy efficient commercial space available to social purpose organisation (not for profits and/or social enterprises)
  • Activate the retail corridor with increased foot traffic
  • Achieve full occupancy of the property and revitalise common spaces

We worked with Sprout founder and architect Kate Fitzgerald from Whispering Smith Architecture, to devise low cost and simple fit out alterations to make the pre-existing space more adaptable, flexible and open for communal use. We then contracted Z Construction Group to deliver the onsite changes for the fit out of the space - resulting in an open, spacious and inviting work area that combined a modern, eclectic style with comfort to create a professional, yet relaxed, vibe.

We developed a bold and easily recognisable brand for Impact Workshop integrating the themes of community, innovation and purpose. Creating the logo, website and maintaining the social media platforms, we created a vibrant online community to discuss ideas, market events and engage the wider population in Geelong.

For the day-to-day management, Sprout oversaw all elements of the project, from invoicing, marketing and promotion, events coordination, liaising with the building facilities manager, and face-to-face tenant engagement.

Impact Workshop was home to active events program led by our team as well as our members and the wider Geelong community. We offered a space to support the community and local businesses to deliver their own workshops, and coordinated regular personal and professional development initiatives including a monthly skillshare Learn at Lunch series and free mindfulness sessions. Throughout the project we developed relationships with like-minded local leaders, groups and businesses in order to grow the network for our members and reach of our purpose-driven business message
